Voi residents are joining Diaspora University Town (DUT). Dan Kamau, the DUT Project Director, when urging Voi residents to join, is saying, “One of the reasons I’m in Voi today is because in 1865, 230 citizens of Worcester, MA, joined in founding WPI University that today has an annual budget of about $500 million, which contributes toward the jobs in Worcester City.” The goal is to have about Voi residents join DUT so they can be part of creating 20,000 jobs for Voi's Gen Z.

Dan, when answering a question about why he invested in DUT and returned to Kenya Dan tells the story of two signs on the Interstate Highway 290 that goes through Worcester. He says the signs that are at the border of Worcester city and other towns read as follows: “Welcome to Worcester, Birthplace of Dr. Robert Goddard, Father of Moderna Rocketry.” Dan narrates how a seventeen-year-old living in Worcester in 1899 envisioned an object that would go to the moon, and how the first object Goddard created, launched upward, at WPI University.

According to this story, Dan asserts that universities play a significant role in inventions and innovations that sustain life. He says the 1865 decision by the 230 citizens of Worcester, MA, led to WPI playing a pivotal role in the invention of rockets.
He says Diaspora University will play a crucial role in advancing inventions and innovations. Adding, “One of the achievements Diaspora University and Daktari Biotechnology Ltd look to achieve is the invention and production of cancer vaccines and medicines.”
On how one joins DUT, Dan says, “One joins by becoming a DUT townhouse developer using the DUT townhouse development system that applies a document called THIDA.” He says that after one signs the document and deposits the capital set out in it, they become part of the developers of the planned 3,500 units. He advises that the capital can be obtained by taking a personal loan from a bank.

On other benefits, he says, “Once one becomes a townhouse developer, they also become creators of the 15,000 jobs, and they can offer a job to whomever they choose for every townhouse they develop. He says the maximum number of units a person can develop is four, and thus they can create four jobs to award to those seeking employment.

Voi region has about 5,000 young men and women aged 35 or younger who don't have jobs. In the next 5 years (2026-2030), about 4,000 children aged 14 to 18 will become adults by December 2030. Those joining DUT are joining to create jobs for some of these young men and children as they grow into adulthood.
Another benefit is that one becomes a university founder after joining. One can add, “Founder of the university,” to their achievements. Another benefit is the ability to open a new MSME or expand their current business to DUT. The Diaspora University integrates MSMEs and the Diaspora University. The Diaspora University MSMEs plan is to work hand in hand to grow MSME revenue and create job opportunities.

Another opportunity available to Voi residents who join DUT is to become suppliers to the DUT budget. Dan has four budgets that supplies will be part of: the DUT design-build budget of Ksh 39.5 billion, which will produce 3,700 buildings, 60 km of roads, and infrastructure. The second budget is the Diaspora University 4-year budget of Ksh 7.45 billion. The third budget is the 5-year budget for Diaspora University Medical Hospital, totaling approximately Ksh 6.9 billion. Additionally, there is the Diaspora University Town budget, which is approximately Ksh 2.4 billion.
