Prof. Philliph Mutisya has over 30 year’s university experience. During an event held at the Diaspora University Town in Kenya, he started the founding of the Diaspora university academic plan. The professor will in the next one year oversee the preparation of the requirements by the Commission of University Education (CUE) that include: the curriculum of at least four programs; the lectures rooms and faculty offices; the library and books, both paper and electronic; the recruitment of the founding faculty; the enrolment of the first class; and, the university doors opening.
The Professor of Education retired from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC in June 2024. He also will be founding the Diaspora University Department of Education.
Dan Kamau who developed the Diaspora University Town (DUT) Master Development Plan (MDP) and relocated to Kenya from Worcester, MA to start DUT in Kenya welcomed Prof. Mutisya to Kenya, to DUT and to his new role.
Speaking at the temporary offices of the town development at the Diaspora University Town, Dan said that the Diaspora University Master Development Plan has achieved an endowment of Ksh 3.2 billion. He said the endowment will fund the university founding costs, university property, investments in some of the MSMEs setting up at DUT, and students finance fund.
Dan further stated that the Master Development Plan will grow the endowment to Ksh 20 billion. He said Ksh 14 billion of the Ksh 20 billion endowment will fund students. He said the students will get education and the finance will create about 1,000 faculty and staff jobs and other Hospital and MSME jobs . He said that as the first class of four years graduates the university is expected to have 5,000 students and by then achieve a charter.
Prof. Mutisya joined the project in 2015 when he signed the Townhouse Investment and Development Agreement (THIDA). In November and December 2024, he will tour different towns and cities in the U.S, UK and EU and talk to Diaspora Kenyans who would like to join in the Diaspora University founding.
The Diaspora Kenyans will join as Townhouse Developers through 2,200 units available. Those joining can also become Diaspora University founding faculty, Diaspora University departments founders, Diaspora University Medical Hospital Founders; Diaspora University Town MSMEs and organizations founders; or take one of the 15,000 jobs created at DUT.
The Diaspora University Town (DUT) plan is for building a town that supports Diaspora University and meets the rights of housing, healthcare, environment, children rights and other rights.
The plan will produce 3,778 properties with 4,000 buildings that will be serviced by a 60km paved road network. 200,000 trees will be preserved and planted in the plots and roads. This ecosystem will support over 5,000 university students learning as a 25,000 residents town developed.
Prof. Mutisya was happy to officially start his Diaspora University founding role in Kenya. He informed over 30 persons spearheading some of the Departments of the Town; and, those heading the opening of DUT MSMEs and Ndara B MSMEs he would do his part. He was welcomed by those present.
He informed those present that he graduated from the University of Massachusetts (UMass) in Amherst, MA with his PhD. He thereafter taught in various USA institutions in North Carolina that include: North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Fayetteville, and University of Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Generation Z present who included: Faith Mwachala, who is heading the DUT Property and MSMEs development; Brian Lwambi, who is leading the founding of Ndara B Msambweni MSME for building materials started by about 200 Ndara B Members and others thanked the professor for investing time and resources to create for them jobs. The Diaspora University founding has so far led to 30 Ndara B MSMEs plans established through 14 Ndara B villages. 2,743 members as of 2022 are founding this MSMEs that will supply building materials, water and food.
The professor said he was happy to be part of those who have created jobs for Generation Z. He said that the earlier generations: The Silent Generation (1928-1945); The Baby Boomer Generation (1946-1964); Generation X (1965-1980); and, Millennial's (1981-1996) should create jobs for Generation Z (1997-2012); the Gen Alpha (2013 – 2025) and other future generations.
He said that Diaspora Kenyans in appreciation of those who created the jobs in the U.S that have enabled them live in the USA and raise a family should create jobs. He informed those in attendance that as he comes back from the U.S in December there will be over 2,000 Diaspora Kenyans in DUT.
50 years from today the Generation Z present in the October 2024 meeting, who will have progressed and sustained the Diaspora University and Town will celebrate the 50th Year with the story of how Diaspora Kenyans, Ndara B Community and other partners founded the Diaspora University as a university to advance jobs creation, housing development and wealth creation.
