Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) support the attainment of the environment, social, economic and children rights that Kenyans gave themselves in Kenya constitution 42, 43 & 53. Diaspora University Town (DUT) development plan of 25,000 resident’s town, 5,000 student’s university and 3,000 visitors will have diverse MSMEs open to meet the residents, students and visitors rights. The DUT plan has 140 plots totaling 268 acres for MSMEs and organizations. About 200 buildings and structure will be erected in the 140 plots.
The MSMEs will be part of creating the 15,000 jobs at DUT. At the time of the Diaspora University first class graduation after four years, about 300 MSMEs will be operational at Diaspora University Town. The MSMEs will be selling products and services to the residents, students, visitors, Kenyans and the global market.
DUT continues to establish persons to open MSMEs. Several MSMEs are already started:
Daktari Biotechnology Ltd for Medicines and Vaccines www.dktb.co.ke
The MSME is started by Diaspora Kenyans scientists and embraced by Kenyans who are investing to build the plant. This MSME will produce medicines and vaccines as well as open pharmacy outlets. The MSME is allocated 4 plots of the 140 plots. The 11 acre plot allocated will be applied to build a medicine and vaccine plant. Pharmacy outlets will be built on 3 plots. The founder’s and investors goal is to achieve a MSME that reaches Ksh 20 billion revenue and 500 jobs created.
DUT Credit Ltd for financial Services www.dutcredit.co.ke
Started by Diaspora University Trust, Diaspora Kenyans, Ndara B Community and others, the financial services company headquarters will be located at a 3 acre plot at DUT. The MSME is projected to create over 300 jobs as it provides financial products and services to the Diaspora university, Town residents, students and MSMEs. The shareholders goal is to have over 50% of the DUT property mortgage loans, MSMEs business loans and individual loans issued by the financial company. The company will play a key role in establishing and growing the DUT Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to over Ksh 20 billion.
Design-Build (DB) MSME
The Design-Build (DB) MSME is setting up on 9.3 acres in DUT where it will erect warehouses and office buildings. This company started by Diaspora University Trust and Design-Build professionals will implement the DUT design-build (DB) plan. The DB plan incorporates the development of 3,778 properties, erecting 4,000 buildings and construction of a 60 km road and infrastructure network. The estimated DB budget is Ksh 38 billion.
The DB MSME future goals is to build new towns and modify unplanned settlements. Based on the current Kenya population and projected growth the Kenya Design-Build work in the next 20 years is estimated at over Ksh 50 trillion.
DUT Materials MSME
The DUT Materials MSME will advance quality building materials production. The MSME that is setting up in 2 plots will work closely with 14 Ndara B MSMEs started by Ndara B Community in progressing the production of building materials in Kenya.
