The Diaspora University Town (DUT) design-build budget is currently at Ksh 39.5 billion. Building materials worth about Ksh 12 billion will be extracted and manufactured at DUT and at the adjacent Ndara B land where 15 MSMEs are setting up.

After identifying the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) finance for residential houses and a bank that can work with the project; Ronald Mwangombe, who spearheads the DUT materials and is establishing the DUT Materials Company, has started manufacturing materials.

At the DUT site, hollow block manufacturing is ongoing. The blocks will be used in university buildings, townhouses, and other educational and commercial buildings. He is also training those who will spearhead the opening of Ndara B 15 MSMEs for building materials.

Other concrete products that he is working to manufacture include Cabro pavers, Poles, Paving slabs, Brick Cabro, Dumple Paving, Rectangular Pavers, Cosmic Pavers, Kerbstone, Culverts, Concrete drainage,  ’Rectangular invert block drain, Concrete louvre block, Pillar copings, Hollow pots, Wall panels, Road channels, Concrete spindles, Wall copings, and others.

These concrete products will be manufactured using ballast and dust extracted and crushed from Ndara B land, sand harvested in the streams inside the land, and the Voi River that borders the land.

The other materials Ndara B MSMEs will supply to the DUT are sand, ballast, marram, stones, doors, windows, and others. The sand, marram, stones, and ballast will come from the Ndara B Community land.

In the first 5 years, the 15 Ndara B MSMEs and DUT Materials Company will supply the building materials that will erect about 4,000 buildings and structures at DUT and in the construction of a 60 km road and infrastructure network.
