Dr. Jackson Waweru, a Diaspora University Town (DUT) founder and investor, led a team of DUT in showcasing DUT at the PCEA Sukari Parish Business Expo in Nairobi. Dr. Waweru was joined by Jackson Kimanzi and Gladys Akelo of DUT. The team, through DUT flyers, presented to over 500 persons. They gave about 250 flyers to persons who showed interest of becoming DUT Townhouse Developers or who know someone in the Diaspora they would like to introduce DUT to. Many liked the DUT goal of creating jobs for Generation Z.
Dr. Waweru holds a doctorate in finance. He is an auditor by profession. He asked his fellow Kenyans in the Nairobi region to join DUT and be part of changing the fortunes of our beloved country Kenya positively. By becoming a DUT Townhouse developer one also becomes a Diaspora University founder.
The scholar first heard about the university project in 2015 from Stephen Waithaka of Redlands, CA in the USA. Diaspora Kenyans were then being asked to register their interest of becoming townhouse developers of the university town plan. Even though Dr. Waweru was not in the Diaspora, he would register.
In 2017 he was part of the Kenyans who went to Voi, Taita Taveta County to start DUT. He has visited the DUT site several times as he has played his role of advancing the DUT development.
He has injected capital for townhouse development; put in share capital to found DUT Credit Ltd; his block making machine has been applied to make over 40,000 interlocking blocks; and, he is part of the Kenyans investing to build the Daktari Biotechnology Ltd medicine and vaccine plant.
As a founder of Diaspora University, Dr. Waweru is putting professional time to review and work on the Diaspora University draft proposal that will be submitted to the Commission of University Education (CUE). He is also putting time in the founding of the Business School that will be similar to the parent institution, WPI. He is committed to be part of the scholars who will welcome the first class.
On the business side he is one of the Entrepreneurs founding an MSME at DUT. He will have a sportswear shop, gym, fitness and training center. He plans to build the business on a one acre plot. The business will create about 20 jobs of sales and trainers. Once the model he is working on is successful at DUT, he will expand it to other locations.
Sports and physical fitness sector is one of the sectors that has not yet played its role in the growth of Kenya Gross Domestic Product GDP.
The message to those attending the Expo and others was: Join DUT by becoming DUT Townhouse Developers. Come start an MSME at DUT. Let’s create jobs for our children becoming adults. Let’s create jobs for Generation Z.
