Dorothy Mwawasi who is visiting Kenya from the Virginia State, Washington DC area visited the Diaspora University Town (DUT). Dorothy, a townhouse developer. Bishop Donald Mwawasi from Atlanta, GA and his wife also came to visit the DUT site and were happy to find Dorothy at the site. Dan Kamau, DUT project director together with the DUT team welcomed the visitors at the site.
Dan gave an update of the project and the current finance plan. He informed Dorothy that the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) finance product has enabled DUT to achieve the financial product for townhouses development. He said once one of the financial primary mortgage lenders listed by KMRC comes on board, the project construction can start by February.
Discussing the Diaspora role, the Diaspora Kenyans agreed this was an opportunity that Diaspora Kenyans who become founders will benefit from. Dorothy said she looks to retire in Kenya and she could retire at Diaspora University Town.
Dorothy also got to understand the system that is in place to produce materials. Ronald Mwangombe of DUT Building Materials took her through the manufacturing process for the building materials to be applied in building of walls, floors and roofs of the buildings. Barnabas Mwadembo, a constructor who is part of the design-build team, talked about the construction process.
