Diaspora University Town (DUT) is a university town development project by the Diaspora Kenyans, Ndara B Community and partners. The project development is ongoing in Kenya. The project is a jobs creation, property development and MSMEs establishment project. Several Diaspora Kenyans are working at DUT in Kenya progressing the project. By the time the project creates 20,000 jobs over 2,000 Diaspora Kenyans are expected to be working at DUT University, Medical Hospital, Town and in about 300 MSMEs that they will open.
Dan Kamau formerly of Worcester, MA, USA
Dan lived in Worcester, MA. He wrote the book, Gambling with Destiny and founded Jamhuri Magazine. He joined WPI Professors in organizing WPI U.S-Africa business conferences and worked with the professors on the idea of establishing a university. The idea is today the ongoing Diaspora University.
He innovated the Integrated Sustainable System of University and Town development that established the university endowment that today is at Ksh 3.2 billion and will grow to Ksh 20 billion.
He based the system on jobs creation, property development and GDP growth. He aligned the system with the WPI plan and Kenya constitution 2010 to create the DUT Master Development Plan (MDP). He has created over 100 systems and plans for DUT project production and sustenance. Over 500 Diaspora Kenyans are investors through the THIDA system.
In 2018, Dan moved back to Kenya and registered Diaspora University Trust. He kicked off Diaspora University Town development and is today working as Diaspora University Trust – Executive Trustee and Diaspora University Town – Project Director. His office is at Diaspora University Town.
Prof. Philliph Mutisya of Raleigh, NC
Prof. Mutisya joined the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1983. He received his Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.) in 1985 and his Doctorate Degree in Education (Ed.D.) in 1989. He settled in North Carolina.
From 1989 – 2024 he taught in various universities in North Carolina that include: North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Fayetteville, and University of Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In June 2024 he retired and has since taken up the Diaspora University Job number 1, of founder of the academic plan. The job will see Prof. Mutisya work for two years. During the two years he will prepare all requirements for submission to the Commission of University Education (CUE), open the Diaspora University and welcome the first class to the new university.
Jackson Kimanzi formerly of Worcester, MA
Jackson who worked at FedEx when in the U.S. He is today working for the Diaspora University Town design build plan. He has so far talked to over 500 businesses that produce building materials. He also markets DUT and represents DUT in events as the project looks for partners and resources.
